Letchworth State Park, renowned as the “Grand Canyon of the East,” is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs–as high as 600 feet in some places–surrounded by lush forests and what better time to visit than during peak fall color! We will drive and park near the upper and middle falls to take in the views and get the scenic pictures. There will be some walking involved that may be on uneven ground, but we will not be hiking any trails. We will then make a stop at the Humphrey Nature Center. It offers year-round environmental education opportunities for the general public. Programming and interactive exhibits highlight the geology, wildlife, and ecology of the park.
We have 11:30am lunch reservations at Caroline’s at The Glen Iris Inn which is nestled in the heart of Letchworth State Park. Lunch will be at your own cost off the lunch menu. Lunch items consist of soups, salads, hot & cold sandwiches with prices between $10-$22. Following lunch we will leave the park and head over to The Castile Cider Mill. This is a landmark historic site in Western New York that has been serving the region since 1945. They are a family-owned and operated business that offer fresh apple cider which is cold pressed on the premises, and their famous old-fashioned apple cider fry cakes that are made fresh daily. They also offer locally sourced fall produce from their orchard and vineyard as well as other delicious items from the region.
$35 for van transportation, museum donation and parking. Non-members are $45. Lunch & cider mill are at your own cost. This is a 1.5 hour drive with limited bathroom stop opportunities
